SuperSport have announced the broadcast schedule for the 30 minute documentary on the Billabong SA Junior Champs presented by BOS, which was completed during five days of outstanding waves at the Lower Point in Jeffreys Bay last month.

Featuring the country’s top 18-and-under surfers representing their Districts from all over the South African coastline, the event produced the closest result in 21 history of the Freedom Cup with the team from Cape Town Surfriders reclaiming the cup they won in 2015 by scoring just 63 points more than their arch rivals from eThekweni.

National age-group champions were crowned in Under-12, U14, U16 and U18 divisions for boys and girls alongside a host of specialty prizes supported by BOS, VonZipper, Wazoogles and Skullcandy.

“The event was amazing with awesome waves every day at Lower Point!” said Billabong South Africa Marketing Manager, Chad Darcy. “The surfing standard was really high – the groms have been blowing up – and it’s great to see some new faces claim the titles. From Billabong’s point of view it was a great way to end the 2017 contest season.”

The 30 minute show will be broadcast on the SS8 and SS10 channels at various times from Monday to Friday to ensure everyone has the opportunity to watch.

As part of Surfing South Africa’s commitment to transformation, the South African Development Academy team participated in the event thanks to support from Sea Harvest and a grant from Sport and Recreation South Africa.

Surfing South Africa (SSA) is the recognised governing body for surfing in South Africa. SSA is a member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA)
