Young guns and veterans alike tore into the one metre waves at New Pier in Durban on the opening day of the Volkswagen SA Open of Surfing pres. by Hurley as the organisers completed Round 1 (Round of 160) and the first 10 heats of the Round of 128 in the World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series QS3,000 rated men’s event.

uThungulu Surfriding, formerly Zululand Surfriding Association, will from now on be known as King Cetshwayo Surfriders. The new name, falling in line with the name change of the district, was announced at the Annual General Meeting held at Alkantstrand on 11 June just before the trial contest.

Supertubes, Jeffreys Bay - In firing surf at Supertubes, Dale Staples from St Francis Bay won the 2017 edition of the JBU Supertrial by powering through some of the biggest and deepest barrels of the day. Staples was in rhythm with the ocean from the start, picking up all the best waves on his route to the final.
